炉火不用生得很旺

可以无心地睡一会儿

靠着棕色的木板隔墙

那有些忧伤的哼唱9 F- P0 _* P% |# `( Y# w, d
当年乡下的老屋

石竹花在窗台上慢慢地生长
$ s5 {) \ j2 L @% f" y 暮冬的雪飘落了一个又一个黄昏

透过被飞雪映得发亮的窗子/ _4 Z" p1 C q O2 s
老树的枝桠显得更加黝黑

使我久久不能入睡3 R# e/ n4 E+ K3 }3 V
像我小时候一样 b7 z# }) m9 K
母亲依旧那样整日地操劳

飘飞的雪花渐渐掩住了以往的记忆

温暖的炉火上

6 k! N9 c6 c5 n' ^) o( M b The fire need not be very bright0 h! N: |/ n6 Y; j
It is warm enough here
+ L. L2 j- X" j' G' _6 J To sleep awhile unwittingly
8 `( k' G3 Q) y# k* z) E6 Z0 N Dreaming of youth

The somewhat distressed humming
0 o. D9 P S# ?, G; e7 n$ g$ ^" q0 } The old country house! h2 @# u- @$ J% \/ M
May no longer be there& a# o: \6 V4 l, l
With pinks growing slowly on the windowsill3 j; I% e; i6 v& P6 c" e9 a2 B
Late winter snows float down twilight by twilight
R( f# r% {! z To be heard in the solitude against the glass9 S( G/ ~. S0 Z& E* o6 J# q, E
And through the window illuminated by snowflakes! }: L1 h$ s* y" S9 \
The old tree's crotches seem swarthier8 Z2 _8 x4 W4 P
And the sound of melting snow falling from the eaves
0 d& C0 T% \. S5 O* f Keeps me long from sleep7 h: h* K R- ?. M- _2 h% V8 |3 U
And in my youth
" c9 h: {1 L a" V9 L I did not sleep till Mother
+ m! i/ W' N% x9 K' ^ Having slaved daylong
3 o8 }! A; h1 S- g/ w0 q$ [; A b From one room to the next; ~$ m' z0 K' ]/ N# V* Y
Tucked in my coverlet% Y3 ]" u& y T/ B5 }
So the snowflakes gradually tuck in memory of the past
) L4 E, @; g6 z# I And I faintly hear' k7 M6 d' h8 Y! k3 p& H
Twigs fall5 ]' i9 T1 P, S
And the kettle singing
9 O% s; R* k* a) [! C On the warm fire
" v4 f$ {4 u9 V& T
3 p' T9 @5 V& e" H c |
